Nuclear Consulting Limited

Bring Your Own Client

For experienced nuclear consultants whose personal service company route has stopped working while the client still wants them. The relationship stays; the commercial route moves from the PSC to NCL.

Your client still wants you. They no longer want your PSC.

Much of the UK nuclear sector has run on contractors working through personal service companies, and for years that offered independence, mobility and direct client relationships. Over the last decade the advantages have worn away: heavier administration, tighter client policies, more of the downside risk sitting with the individual, and IR35 and off-payroll reform as the final blow for many. When a client will no longer engage a PSC the usual options are to join the client and give up independence, or to work through an umbrella and accept employee taxation without the package, continuity or support of a real employer.

Bring Your Own Client is the alternative. The arrangement is settled in a three-way conversation between consultant, client and NCL before anything changes hands. NCL agrees scope and commercial terms with the client and stands behind the engagement, its governance and its quality. The consultant joins NCL as an employed consultant, keeps the relationship and the day-to-day role, and the work continues with minimal disruption and a cleaner compliance position. Unlike an umbrella, NCL then helps the consultant build a portfolio beyond the original client, with access to the wider pipeline, a senior peer group and the ability to move across programmes as demand changes. Employment terms are structured to suit the individual.
